The Search function is available throughout RentalMan. In most cases, you press the F4 key to access Search; however, on some screens, you need to first enter 1 in the Option column for a field like Equipment Number, and then press Enter to access Search.
For most codes like location, price, status, credit, sales rep, and so on, place your cursor in the field where you need to enter the code, and press F4. A look-up window appears that lists all of the codes that are applicable for that field. Often, in the look-up window, you can use a filter field at the top of the list to narrow your search, so you do not have to scroll through a long list to find the right code. After you find the code you want, enter a 1 in the Option column (typically labeled O or Opt) to select the code, and press Enter. The field is now populated with the code you selected.

When you want to search for a master record such as a customer or piece of equipment or for a transaction record such as a rental contract or a purchase order, place your cursor in the appropriate field and press F4. The corresponding search screen appears. In some programs (like when you are entering equipment on a rental contract), instead of placing your cursor in the Equipment field and pressing F4, you must enter a 1 in the Opt column to the left of the field, and then press Enter to access the appropriate search screen.
The search screens for these types of records provide more search capability than the look-up windows provide for code searches. In these search screens you can choose to search the records one of several different ways, and often you are presented with filters such as start dates or order number ranges to narrow your search.
